Introduction
There are two types of smog:
1. Smog caused by suspended particulate matter (SPM), which is often associated with sulphur compounds released when fossil fuels are burned.
2. Photochemical smog formed when nitrogen oxides (NOX), hydrocarbons and ozone react together, in the presence of sunlight, to form peroxyacetyl nitrates (PANs).
